Setup

The Sony VPL HW45ES is easy to set up, and its out-of-the-box settings are sufficient until you learn how to adjust the projector. The major challenge while setting up the projector was picking a location that is free from direct sunlight and one with enough space for my desired image size — 100 inches plus. Once I decided on a location, I ensured the projector was level with the surface and at the right height for the best image height. Next, I connected the projector to my source device — my computer, using the HDMI cable. However, you can connect the projector to your source device with a USB or VGA cable. After connecting the projector to my computer, I turned on the projector and adjusted the focus and zoom controls to get the correct picture size and clarity. Also, I adjusted the picture settings from the projector’s menu to calibrate the picture settings. Then, I connected my external speakers to the projector as the speakers on the projector aren’t so loud.

Features

With a wide range of impressive features, the VPLHW45ES delivers an immersive viewing experience. The projector sports a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels that deliver detailed and sharp images up to 100 inches and is ideal for video gaming and movies. With a brightness of 1,800 Lumens, the Sony VPL produces vivid images even in well-lit rooms. The projector offers a high dynamic contrast ratio of up to 120,000:1 that delivers deep bright whites and blacks, which makes pictures appear real and crisper.

The projector employs Motionflow Technology that helps to create smooth images and reduce motion blur, making the projector ideal for fast-paced action scenes and gaming. Again, the Sony projector is compatible with 2D and 3D content that allows you to experience a more immersive viewing experience, but Sony includes no 3D glass in the box. In addition, this Sony projector has a user-friendly interface with a range of sound and picture adjustments, which makes it easy to get perfect sound and pictures for movies and gaming. The VPL projector sports a 6,000 hours lamp life that reduces the need for frequent lamp replacement and low maintenance. For connectivity, the projector offers HDMI, USB, and Ethernet ports, which makes it easy to connect to a range of devices.

Design

Designed in a stylish piano-black finish, the Sony VPL-HW45ES is a compact and attractive projector. With its 1080p SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) and center-mounted lens, the projector is a brilliant choice for home theater and gaming setups. It sports a white and sleek finish that blends with many home decor styles. Besides its lightweight and easy-to-set up design, the VPL projector offers an intuitive menu system and easy on-screen control. The projector has a powerful lamp that delivers bright, high-quality images. The ventilation exhaust is positioned at the front left and front right sides of the projector, as well as around the back. The manual lean shift knobs are positioned on top of the projector (to properly align the picture on the screen).

Conclusion

In this Sony VPL HW45ES review, we find that the unit is an excellent home theater, entertainment, and video game projector. It delivers black and vibrant colors with a full range of subtle graduations to produce accurate 2D and 3D images. In addition, it offers an array of video processing features that allow you to adjust images to your taste. The Motionflow technology maintains the projector’s 22ms lag time and ensures you enjoy fluid pictures with minimal latency for gaming and streaming.
