Huion Kamvas 22: Functional Pen Display

The Huion Kamvas 22 is a functional drawing tablet designed for graphic designers and digital artists. This tablet provides an immersive natural drawing experience thanks to the large display and high resolution. It supports Android, Windows, and Mac operating systems and connects to computers using a USB-C cable. Regardless of its low price point, this Huion digital tablet is a multi-purpose drawing tablet that does not feel or function cheaply. The Huion Kamvas studio 22 tablet is not a standalone sketching tablet as you need to plug it into your computer or Android device for it to function properly.

Setup

Setting up and installing the Huion Kamvas 22 driver was seamless. After unboxing the tablet, it surprised me to see the ‘Thank you for choosing HUION’ card with links and contact details of customer support. Next, I powered on the tablet and connected it to my computer, then installed the tablet’s driver from the Huion website. However, when downloading the latest Huion drivers, ensure you select the correct version for your operating system.

Once I installed the driver, my computer recognized the tablet, then I launched Adobe Photoshop to test run the tablet and see if the pen worked. The tablet pen worked well, but to customize settings such as button assignments and pressure sensitivity, locate and open the driver software and scroll to the settings tab. However, I fixed the stand last because it requires placing the tablet on its face. Hence, do not peel off the screen protector until you fix the stand with the four screws and the Allen key in the box.

Features

The Kamvas studio 22 features a large IPS LCD screen with a full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, which performs well with the size of the tablet. It sports a 16.7M (8bit) color display with a 120% sRBG color gamut, ensuring accurate and vivid colors. The tablet has a drawing area of 19 x 11 inches and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. In addition, the screen comes with etched glass and anti-glare matte film that gives a paper-like feel and makes it easy to work under bright light.

The tablet lacks shortcut keys but features four function buttons at the top right of the tablet where you find the power button. You can use these buttons to adjust the color, brightness, and sharpness, and access other on-screen menus on the tablet. Besides, you can purchase a mini key dial for $50, which allows for quick function access and connects wirelessly or via cable. Nicely tucked away on the right side of the screen is a USB-A port for connectivity and file transfers. The passive pen offers 60 degrees tilt and up to 8192 pressure levels of sensitivity. However, the ergonomic pen is made of plastic and features two buttons — the top button acts as the ‘right mouse click’ and the bottom button acts as the ‘eraser.’ The tablet also sports a plastic pen holder that also doubles as the pen nib case holding 10 extra nibs.

Design

Minus the adjustable stand, the Huion 22 has a sleek and lightweight design, making it easy for artists to work on the go. The tablet is thin with a very thin bezel that flushes to the display, so moving your hand around the tablet feels comfortable. In addition, the drawing area is smaller than the display so you don’t run out of drawing space when you reach the edge of the canvas. The 20 to 80 degrees adjustable stand is sturdy and has two rubber feet that hold the tablet in place and position the display at any angle that feels comfortable to you. Yet, because of the stand, the tablet is heavy and can’t lie flat on the desk.

Conclusion

Finally, the Huion Kanvas 22 drawing tablet is an affordable graphics tablet for designers and digital artists that prefer to work on the go. The tablet is compatible with Android, Windows, and Mac operating systems and is easy to set up and customize. It features a large drawing area and offers a 120% sRBG color gamut, offering vivid and accurate colors. It comes with an ergonomic pen that offers 8192 pressure levels of sensitivity and an anti-glare matte film that gives the screen a paper-like feel.
