Bamboo Capture: Solid Entry-Level Tablet with 4 Express Keys

Wacom Bamboo Capture CTH470

The Wacom Bamboo Capture is a basic graphics tablet that comes in a kit with a pen-like stylus and has a natural, paper-like drawing surface. It's suitable for sketching, photo editing, and notetaking.

Setup

The installation is very simple. Just turn your PC/laptop on and connect the tablet to it using an included 3.5ft USB cable. Then, install the driver and simply follow the on-screen instructions.

The wireless connectivity is optional. The tablet has a receiver that can make it wireless-capable, but you must obtain a Wacom wireless accessory kit separately.

The tablet comes with a great software bundle that includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, Autodesk SketchBook Express, and others. All you have to do to obtain these programs for free is register your device on Wacom's official website.

Setting up the tablet, you only have to connect one cable and install the driver, and there is nothing easier. So, I give it 10/10 for simplicity.

Features

This model is a part of the Bamboo line that presents affordable tablets for drawing, editing, and writing. The reviewed model is often compared to the Bamboo Splash model. They have the same size and generally look very alike, but the Bamboo Capture has a better screen resolution (4000 LPI versus 2540 LPI).

The Wacom Bamboo Capture pen, with two assignable buttons, is pressure sensitive (1024 levels) and has a rubberized coating that feels nice to the touch. However, as for me, it's too lightweight and also has a cheap plastic feel. The absence of an eraser on the opposite end of the pen also disappoints me.

The pen also can replace a computer mouse. When you bring it close to the surface, the cursor appears on the screen helping you select interface elements, and, of course, makes it easier to navigate the drawing area.

The surface has a multi-touch capability which means that it can recognize commands you make with your fingers. It's much more convenient to use your fingers for zooming and scrolling than doing it using the pen.

Although the pen isn't very good, the Wacom Bamboo Capture tablet does its job well, so this way it gets 9/10 from me.

Design

There are 4 programmable shortcut keys on the left side that have an unusual geometric design. Next to them, there is a glossy black bar with a Bamboo logo on it. Between the keys, you will see a blue LED power indicator. On the right side, the tablet has a holder for the pen. The buttons require an effort to press, so you are not likely to push them by accident.

The textured surface on the bottom prevents sliding. The body of the Wacom Bamboo Capture Pen and Touch tablet (CTH470) is mostly silver-colored. Although it is mostly made of plastic, the tablet still feels quite hefty in the hands (0.93 pounds). Therefore, it seems to be durable. Moreover, it can be used by both left- and right-handed artists.

The active surface area measures 5.8 x 3.6 inches. The tablet itself is 6.9 inches high, 10.9 inches wide, and 0.4 inches thick.

The tablet has a well-thought design that makes it convenient to use. This way, I rate it at 10/10.

Conclusion

The Bamboo Capture Pen and Touch is a low-cost drawing tablet that will provide you with everything you need for digital sketching, writing, or editing. Thanks to the paper-like surface and pressure-sensitive pen, it will be easy for you to get used to the Bamboo Capture if you have never used the digital drawing tablet before. Although the pen could be of higher quality, the tablet generally justifies its price.
