Sunba 601-d25X: 3 Tracking Options and Powerful Zoom

Sunba 601-d25X

The Sunba 601-D25X is a smart tracking PTZ camera that excels in outdoor use, thanks to its water-resistant outer covering. The camera's primary feature is a powerful 25x zoom that lets you see subjects up to 1000 feet away. And if you're installing it for use in lowlight conditions, the LED allows you to adjust between low and high beams to illuminate subjects at night. With a smartphone and the app, you can use the camera's remote live view feature to monitor its feed. Read the rest of the review to find out more about this smart camera from Sunba.

Video production

This camera from Sunba automatically pans around to follow moving subjects using perimeter tracking, line-cross tracking, and preset tracking. I found the image quality suitable for home use, and with a 1080p resolution, recording at 40 FPS, I could see subjects' faces as they moved in front of the camera.

The 5-megapixel camera uses a 1/2.8” Starvis sensor from Sony, one of the best camera sensor makers in the world. From my test, I can attest to the camera's panning speeds. I drove in front of it at moderate speeds, and it still captured my car's movements, thanks to its 360 degrees pan and 105 degrees tilt angles. The 25x optical zoom lets you enlarge details up to 1000ft away and pick out a car's license plate numbers, even while it's in motion. So if you ever need to identify a vehicle that leaves or enters your premises, this camera will handle that with little to no blur.

Though the Sunba 601-D25X specs are good enough for your home or office security, the microphone isn't the best. Thankfully, I could connect my external microphone to the camera, improving the sound quality. It also comes with a 4.8 mm~120 mm focal lens, which lets you manually focus on things if need be. Finally, the camera supports Blue Iris, QNAP, and Security Spy (H.265 HEVC format), which helped me save disk space.

Connection types

You will need to use an Ethernet cable for power and network signals with an 802.3at and a 25W single port adapter to connect this camera. This connection is PoE+ (Power over Ethernet) and will power the speakers and microphone. Be careful not to use a regular PoE connection because it delivers lower power than the camera needs to function. Also, if you want to use the optional power adapter, don't go higher than a 12VDC 4A adapter recommended in the Sunba 601-D25X manual to avoid damaging the camera.

The camera supports ONVIF and works with ONVIF-compatible software. If you want to watch live view or video playback remotely from the camera's recording, you should download Garden Vision from your phone's app store.

Setup

The Sunba 601-D25X setup is complicated, but if you watch instructional videos on Sunba's YouTube page, you will understand how to get your camera up and running. To access the camera from your browser, download and use the SADP tool from the Sunba website to find the IP address your router assigned to the camera. You can alternatively check the device list after logging into your router. Type the IP address in your browser and log in with the following credentials:

  • Username = admin
  • Password = Admin12345

Afterward, download a web plugin to display the Sunba 601-D25X view on your computer screen. To the right of your screen, you will see the presets commands:

  • Preset 50 puts the camera in intrusion tracking method
  • Preset 51 is for line cross tracking
  • Preset 53 to 59 are for preset tracking
  • Preset 92 lets you factory reset the camera

You can set each preset up by going to the configurations menu.

Conclusion

As far as automatic tracking PTZ cameras go, the 601-D25X model from Sunba is a solid option. With a water-tight fit and metal and plastic build materials, I think this camera will stand the test of time. This Sunba 601-D25X review summarizes my use case, but you can expect similarly impressive results when buying this camera unit.
