ViewSonic PJD5155: DLP Projector for Home and Office
The following ViewSonic PJD5155 review presents an inexpensive projector with a high brightness level. Thanks to its extremely bright lamp (3300 lumens), this model is a good choice for watching content in a well-lit room.
Setup
ViewSonic provides a detailed User’s Guide on the official website. The projector can be easily connected to your PC with the help of provided VGA cable. Connect one end of the cable to the computer’s D-Sub output socket. The other cable’s end has to be connected to the projector’s VGA input. You can also connect the mouse directly to the projector via a USB port.
Features
The projector features SVGA 800 x 600 native resolution and can project a 120-inch image if you place the ViewSonic 15 feet away from the screen/wall. However, the 1.1X zoom gives the limited size options of the projected image. Using an HDMI input, you can connect this device to any 3D Blu-ray player (PC, laptop, tablet, etc.) to watch content in 3D format.
The SuperColor technology delivers true to real life image projection with a wide color range and increased accuracy. There are also 5 view settings that are aimed to provide a decent image quality regardless of the ambient light. Brightest works great in a sunlit room; Dynamic is perfect for text-heavy presentations; Standard and ViewMatch are designed for general content viewing from your PC or laptop; Movie is great for watching movies in a dark room.
The ViewSonic PJD5155 specs include the Smart Restart feature thanks to which you don’t have to wait until the projector reboots from the standby mode. The Quick Power Off feature turns off the projector in seconds. The projector can also be automatically turned off/on once the user sets it.
The integrated 2W speakers deliver full-range sound (20Hz – 20kHz). To my mind, this is more than enough for an office and quite good for an average meeting room.
The provided remote control goes equipped with a hotkey button which you can be configured manually. There is also a DynamicEco button on the remote which allows dimming the projection brightness by 70% to extend the lamp’s lifespan and reduce the power consumption. This mode can be activated automatically when the projector is not in use for a long time.
You can control the projector via your phone as well. The vRemote app can be downloaded to any IR-enabled smartphone. This app contains a lot of useful features: for example, it helps correct the keystone. The vRemote can also be used to stream content from Android and iOS devices wirelessly (this feature requires wireless USB adaptor).
Design
The projector's all-black finish looks like brushed aluminum. It has an adjustable front leg and a non-adjustable rear leg. The unit is quite compact (9 x 12.4 x 4.1 inches) and weighs only 4.6 pounds.
On top of the projector, you will find an intuitive tactile keypad, the focus and zoom knobs which feel smooth and sturdy. The top lamp door is easy to access. The optional cable-management hood reduces the cable clutter issue.
On the rear side of the projector, you can find a large number of various connectors: Audio In/Out, S-Video/Video In, USB mini (Type-B), RS232, Monitor Out (to connect the projector to the monitor), VGA, HDMI, AC inputs.
Conclusion
The ViewSonic PJD5155 projector has quite low native resolution so it’s not the greatest solution for home theater. However, its high level of brightness makes it a decent choice for slideshow presentations in a classroom or office.
